Class 3 Digital Signature for Individuals

A Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is the highest assurance level of digital signature issued to individuals in India. It is issued by Certifying Authorities (CAs) licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. Class 3 DSCs provide cryptographic proof of the signer's identity and ensure that digitally signed documents are legally valid and tamper-proof under the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Unlike simple electronic signatures, a Class 3 DSC requires rigorous identity verification — either through Aadhaar-based eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) or in-person verification. This ensures that the person holding the DSC is exactly who they claim to be. The certificate is stored on a FIPS 140-2 certified USB crypto token, making it virtually impossible to duplicate or misuse. Every document signed with a Class 3 DSC carries the same legal weight as a handwritten signature, as recognized by Indian courts and government authorities.
